Baby On A Budget

Baby on a budget

With Christmas out of the way, for a lot of us, it's time to tighten our belts (or loosen them perhaps, depending on how much you indulged in festive feasting. We shan't judge!). That's not to say that you can't still give your baby the best on a budget.

Babies aren't born materialistic. They're generally quite happy with milk and cuddles, but we still like to lavish them with luxury, and it feels super when we don't have to break the bank to do so.

So, here are a few tips for you, from Skibz, on staying posh, but still saving some dosh:

  • Follow all of your favourite names in baby products on social media, and keep up to date with their offers and competitions. We have a weekly giveaway on our Facebook page, as do many other companies. Even if you consider yourself more unlucky than a black cat walking under a ladder on Friday the 13th, it's always worth entering free competitions. Well, there's nothing to lose, is there?

  • It's easy to be lured into buying the latest high-tech, all singing, all dancing toys for your child, but they're an unnecessary expense, and quickly create clutter. Your little one will be just as easily entertained with a wooden spoon and, if you're feeling brave (or have ear plugs), a saucepan to bash. There are hundreds of imaginative inspirations on the internet to keep your babies occupied and to stimulate their senses using everyday items, like cotton wool and dried pasta. Curious? Websites like www.funathomewithkids.com share some wonderfully creative ideas.

  • Charity shops. Alright, so some of you will probably have a frown of skepticism stretching across your brow and wrinkling up your nose right now. Charity shops? Just hear me out. Walking into a charity shop, at first, your senses may tell you that the place smells of second-hand, but give it chance, and you'll soon be sniffing out the treasures. Sometimes, it takes a good rummage, but if you keep an open mind then you're sure to find some real bargains. Designer labels, all at a minuscule fraction of the original price, some brand new and most good as new once they've had a spin with some Fairy. And hey, the money goes to charity, so not only could you walk away from the shop with some trendy threads, but good karma too! I hereby challenge you all to shop in at least one charity shop this year. There, that's your new year's resolution sorted.

  • Okay, so charity shops aren't for everyone. But supermarkets do great ranges of quality baby and toddler clothing, with reasonable price tags too. A budget outfit, accessoried with aSkibz bandana bib, and your child is sure to be looking stylish. And hey, why not make a statement and co-ordinate your baby's socks with their Skibz bib? Just an idea.

But of course, there are real 'must-haves' for every baby that cannot be priced, certain to make sure that your child thrives and blossoms. It's important that your child has them at every cost. They are bespoke, and unique and invaluable:

Your time, your attention, your affection, and your love.

And that won't cost you a penny.
